Sometimes on the postcrossing trades forum you’ll see postings for “gratis” postcards. For those who know a little French, you might recognize this word. It means free. As in, perfect strangers will send you a lovely postcard and not expect anything in return. Now if this seems to good to be true, it’s not. I received one of these cards from a generous sender in New Jersey:
Tawas Point is a hazardous point in Lake Huron, and shifting sands mean the point keeps getting bigger, so there have been two lighthouses there, since the first lighthouse ended up over a mile away from the end of the point.
Lighthouses are so fascinating and picturesque. It’s a shame that many of them are being replaced automated beacons; they just don’t have any charm!
