Today is the premier of the 500th episode of the Simpsons TV show (at least in the USA, don’t know about other countries). So it is very fitting that I have a bunch of Simpson stuff to share with you this morning and some more this afternoon.
My huge order of stamps and pre-stamped cards arrived from the USPS on Thursday, and it included these Simpsons cards from the 2009 definitive stamp release. You can’t buy the stamps anymore but you can still buy the pre-stamped cards:
Maggie is my favorite Simpson, competing possibly with Lisa. She’s definitely the strong, silent type.
Then there’s poor Lisa, who’s been stuck with her odd family for over 20 years. If the Simpsons aged, Lisa would probably be happily long moved out of the house and in grad school. But I think she gets along with her family better than you’d think. After all, Homer does buy her a new saxophone every time he destroys her old one.
Bort Bart Simpson, troublemaker.
Marge, the most understanding wife ever, and World’s Tallest Hair champion 20 years running.
And finally Homer, possibly the world’s least qualified nuclear safety inspector (and also boxer, mascot, astronaut, baby proofer, imitation Krusty, truck driver, hippie, plow driver, food critic, conceptual artist, grease salesman, carny, mayor, grifter, body guard for the mayor, country western manager, garbage commissioner, mountain climber, farmer, inventor, Smithers, Poochie, celebrity assistant, power plant worker, fortune cookie writer, beer baron, Kwik-E-Mart clerk, homophobe, missionary …)
And we can’t forget the side with the stamps. Each card has a matching (pre-printed) stamp on it:
So, are you looking forward to the 500th Simpsons episode? Or do you feel that the Simpsons hit their peak a long time ago? And if you’re from outside the US, how well known are the Simpsons in your country?
